Neo Needs Your Support

Over a decade ago, Neo Community began with one clear belief: no one should go without, and community means belonging.

What started as a small food support initiative has grown into one of Wirral’s leading charities, supporting tens of thousands of local people every year. Alongside food support and wellbeing, we work directly with children and young people – providing safe spaces, hot meals, creative opportunities, and youth programmes that help them thrive. These young people are not only our priority today, they are also the community leaders of tomorrow.

We are incredibly proud of what our staff, volunteers, and partners have achieved – but the need is greater than ever. That’s why we’re asking for your support: as individuals, businesses, and community leaders, to stand alongside us and ensure our work can not only continue, but grow stronger.

The Heart of Neo Community
Neo Community isn’t just a food hub. It’s a safe place, a support network, a warm space, and a catalyst for people-led change. At the core of our work are four key areas:
  1. Food Support & Reducing Waste
We distribute millions of meals’ worth of surplus food every year, stopping good food from going to waste and redirecting it to families, schools, care leavers, and community groups. Our social supermarket offers affordable, healthy shopping options, while our holiday activity and food programmes provide school-standard meals for children during the holidays.
  2. Community Programmes
From wellbeing groups and adult learning to youth clubs and social action projects, we create opportunities for people of all ages to connect, learn, and thrive. Our events – whether it’s Christmas crafts, Burns Night, or a community café lunch – are designed to reduce isolation, build confidence, and celebrate togetherness.
  3. Emergency Response & Seasonal Support
During the hardest months – especially January and February, when household budgets are stretched to breaking point – we see more families and older people struggling than ever. Neo provides food hampers, warm spaces, and direct support at the times when people need it most. At Christmas, our team works tirelessly to ensure no child is without a gift and no table is without a meal.
  4. Community Organising & Long-Term Change
Neo isn’t only about immediate help – we’re also building a stronger, fairer Wirral for the future. Through community organising, we empower local voices to be heard in the decisions that affect them most. We believe change should be with people, not done to them.
The Challenge Ahead
Every week, we see first-hand the reality behind the headlines: parents skipping meals so their children can eat, older residents sitting in cold homes to keep bills down, young people navigating a world that feels stacked against them.
The cost-of-living crisis has hit Wirral hard. Food insecurity, fuel poverty, and social isolation are not abstract issues – they are daily struggles for thousands in our community. And while Neo is here to respond, we can’t do it alone.
We’ve been fortunate to secure funding for many of our programmes, but the truth is clear: funding is short-term, demand is long-term. If we are to continue to deliver vital services, we need deeper community involvement, stronger fundraising, and committed corporate partners who see the value of investing in people.
How You Can Help
Neo Community thrives on partnership – and there are so many ways you, your organisation, or your business can play a part in this movement.
For Individuals & Families
  • Fundraising & Donations: A one-off gift, a monthly standing order, or even a community fundraiser (coffee morning, sponsored walk, quiz night) makes a tangible difference.
  • Volunteer Your Time: From helping in our café to supporting events or driving food deliveries, your time is one of the greatest gifts you can give.
  • Be a Voice for Change: Join us in campaigning for long-term solutions – together, we are stronger.
For Local Businesses
  • Corporate Partnerships: We’re looking for hospitality, retail, and corporate partners to join us in supporting local families. From team volunteering days to sponsorship of key programmes, your business can directly change lives.
  • Add £1 to Every Bill: Restaurants, bars, and cafés can support us by adding an optional £1 to customer bills. Small change from many can create big change for all.
  • Surplus Food Partnerships: Food that would otherwise go to waste can feed families. Donating surplus not only reduces your waste costs but transforms lives.
  • Shared Skills & Manpower: Could your staff offer expertise, from marketing to logistics, or spend a day volunteering with us? Your people are part of the solution.
A Call for Winter Support
While we work year-round, there are times when support is most critical – and winter is top of that list. January and February are the hardest months for many. After the strain of Christmas, families face rising bills, empty cupboards, and isolation.
Neo is committed to standing in that gap, but we need your help to do so. This winter, we are asking individuals, businesses, and community groups to rally with us:
  • Sponsor a family’s food for a week.
  • Provide gifts or essentials for an isolated older resident.
  • Support our warm hubs and community meals.
  • Help us keep our Vans on the road and our food hubs fully stocked.
Why Corporate Partnerships Matter

Neo already works with incredible partners across Wirral and beyond, and we know the difference it makes when businesses step up. A strong corporate partnership is not just about charity – it’s about shared values, community responsibility, and building resilience where we live and work.

By aligning with Neo Community, your business shows staff, customers, and the wider community that you are committed to real change. Whether it’s funding our Christmas campaign, backing our youth work, or helping us fight food poverty, you are part of something bigger: a movement for hope and dignity.

And there’s another truth worth saying: the children and young people we support today are the employees, innovators, and leaders of tomorrow. By investing in them now, businesses are not only helping families survive today, but also shaping a stronger, more skilled, and more resilient workforce for the future.

Looking Forward
At Neo, we don’t just dream of change – we create it. But to keep moving forward, we need all of us: individuals, communities, businesses, and policymakers, pulling together.
We are asking Wirral – and beyond – to join us. To give what you can, share your time, open your networks, and back us in building long-term, systemic change.
The challenges are great, but so is our community’s resilience. Together, we can ensure that no one goes without, that voices are heard, and that compassion is the foundation of the Wirral we want to see.

Steve Morgan Awards 2022

On the 28th March 2022, Ema and Adam we're absolutely honoured to attend the Steve Morgan Awards 2022, a day of celebrating the past twenty... yes twenty years of The Steve Morgan Foundation. Across the day, speakers from charities all supported by the foundation graced the stage to share knowlege, best practice and good news stories of their achievements from the past few years.

NEO Community honoured with Queens Award

We are proud to announce that we have been recognised and awarded the incredibly prestigious Queens Award for Voluntary Service.

The award is the highest honour a voluntary group can receive and acknowledges the tireless efforts of our wonderful team of NEO volunteers.

Judi Blacow, chair of NEOs trustees commented: Our amazing volunteer team keep our Community House open and provide fantastic support services to our local community.

Their duties vary; from driving to collect surplus food supplies, making up and delivering crisis food hampers; working in the shop; cooking; waiting on; cleaning up in the community café; food preparation; gardening; running bingo and kids club; general maintenance etc. The list is endless and we are so lucky to have such a flexible team, willing to tackle most things that come their way.

Our COVID year

What a year this has been! The COVID 19 pandemic has affected nearly every aspect of our lives and has resulted in sudden and significant changes to the services we at NEO Community provide. With social distancing, school closures, National lockdowns and shielding; the need for basic food support has been greater than ever.

We are proud that NEO Community has been at the forefront of this support, from setting up a Wirral wide food hub, collaborating with supply and delivery partners and leading activities to support families through the school closures.

Our profile has grown and we are now recognised as the “go to” charity for most humanitarian needs and crisis support.
